The event was led by the Provincial Government of Inhambane through the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries (DPAP), and the Provincial Directorate of Land and Environment (DPTA) with technical support from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and funding from the German Government,  the Government of Ireland in Mozambique  and the Canadian Government through the CBA Scale+, CORE RESTOR, and ReSea initiatives respectively. PDA-Inhambane brought together representatives of the government, civil society, the private sector, academia and local communities, promoting a multisectoral space for reflection and dialogue. 

The creation of the Platform responds to the environmental challenges faced by the province, such as the degradation of ecosystems, climate change mitigation and adaptation, unsustainable land use practices and overexploitation of natural resources. During the two days, participants discussed strategies for an integrated approach to conservation, aligning land, coastal and marine efforts.

Among the main objectives of PDA-Inhambane are Promotion of multisectoral cooperation for environmental conservation, Exchange of knowledge and experiences, Strengthening local governance and community participation and Mobilization resources for conservation initiatives.
The coast of Inhambane, internationally recognized for its biodiversity, was highlighted as a priority area for conservation, housing unique ecosystems such as the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park and the Cabo de São Sebastião Total Protection Zone. Inhambane seascape is one of the Western Indian Ocean seascapes that comprise the Great Blue Wall.

On the occasion, Governor Francisco Pagula highlighted that “The holding of the Provincial Dialogue Platform on the Environment represents a renewed commitment byf the Provincial Government of Inhambane to the promotion of responsible, inclusive and sustainable environmental management. We believe that, through multisectoral dialogue and the active participation of all actors, we will be able to align efforts for the conservation of our ecosystems and ensure the harmonious socio-economic development of our province, for the benefit of current and future generations.”

At the end of the event, recommendations were defined for public policies, the formation of partnerships and the implementation of concrete actions in favor of the environment, with the commitment of annual meetings to monitor progress and strengthen the participation of all sectors involved.
The realization of PDA-Inhambane represents a fundamental step towards building a common vision of sustainable development, benefiting both biodiversity and the communities that depend on the province’s natural resources.
